With Christmas and the holidays winding down, people are starting to look forward to 2019 with the usual renewed sense of optimism – and with that come the infamous New Year’s Resolutions.
Today, we’re going to share with you a few things you can do to help keep your online dating experience grounded and headed in the right direction for the new year. Let’s jump right in!
Go on more dates
The ages-old debate over whether you have a ‘soul mate’ or not still rages on- around you and within you. Some people practically say there’s no such thing, but we more or less take the opposite approach. There are plenty of them out there, but like anything – finding them can be more of a numbers game.
Instead of match up the perfect profile, it’s important to be a little more flexible with your standards and try to go on more dates. The more people you meet will make it more likely you’ll find someone you’re interested in – maybe even deeply so. But just as important, it’ll also help you figure out what you can live with and what you can’t possibly put up with.
Online dating is a process more often than not. It’s the journey, not the destination and all of that. So go on some more dates, take in some more experiences and each one should help you come closer to figuring out what you really want!
Branching off of what we were just discussing; while you can’t help who you fall in love with, you can help what you’re willing to put up with in a relationship. The most important thing you should care about is how they treat you and how they care about you. If you’ve had a messy pattern of dates in the past, you might find yourself with people who are uncaring over and over again.
You can’t accept this as a given. The first step towards fixing bad patterns is recognizing the signs – inside yourself and others – and expressing your feelings constructively. Be ready to leave if things are going irreversibly in the wrong direction. Make treating yourself well a measurable goal.
Honesty about your needs
Be true to yourself, folks. If you’ve been dating someone for a few months, it’s important to step back and ask some important questions. Is this what you want? Are you happy right now? Is this enough for you now – or do you find yourself wanting more? There are no right or wrong answers, but being up front with yourself about the situations you’re in will help you become better in tune with not only who you want to become, but what you want your relationships to become. Be conscious about the choices you make!
Always be open
To put it simply, folks – the world is changing fast. The way we view relationships is changing just as fast. If you’re feeling confined by societal pressures, feel free to step outside of them. You do you. Think about what’s possible. Not about what can’t happen.
Whatever it is you decide, we hope that 2019 is the year that you get to where you want to be and that online dating serves as a tool to help you get there. Good luck and happy holidays! Best of luck in the new year!
